Multiple choice assessments have been used as an assessment tool for decades and many learners complete them passively and quite frankly find them boring. Mazes are an innovative way to assess learners using the multiple choice idea in a more active and engaging way.
Although the sample is a math activity, this type of assessment can be used for other subjects as well.

Anticipating the learner
When designing mazes I anticipate common misconceptions that the learners may have and make sure to include those options as pathways for the maze. If learners go the wrong way they will eventually get feedback on their own because they will end up at a question they’ve done before or run into a question without an answer.Â
Gamification
Mazes are a great way to gamify multiple choice questions. They are easy to check visually and are an excellent way to add a sense of friendly and fun competition to the learning environment.Â
Learner Engagement
Adding interactive elements such as drag and drop always engages the learner. The arrows are designed so that the user never has to copy and paste the arrows, they can drag and drop as many arrows as they need.
Easy to Integrate into LMS
The maze activity can be easily added to Google Drive or OneDrive which allows the audience to seamlessly integrate into any LMS. It can also be utilized for in-person training.
These types of activities always get rave reviews both educators and learners. They love being able to break away from mundane multiple choice questions and provide something more engaging to their learners.
